My song today is ‘Where Do You Go to My Lovely’. Although I have sung before for Facebook followers, it is repeated today because of its significance to one of the birthday celebrants, Yvonne Burke. Yvonne informs me that today’s song was the Number 1 in the charts on the day of her birth. If our second birthday celebrant today, Margaret Fleming contacts me with whatever song was in the charts the day she was born, I will gladly learn it and sing it for her at a future date.
When I first heard this song, I found it both annoying and repetitive, but after I'd listened to it several times, I found beauty in its words and meaning until I finished up liking it. 'Where Do You Go to My Lovely?' is a song by the British singer-songwriter Peter Sarstedt. It was released in 1969 and was a number-one 1 hit in the UK Singles Chart for four weeks in 1969. It was awarded the Ivor Novello Award for 'Best Song Musically and Lyrically’ in 1969.
Peter Sarstedt was born on December 10th, 1941 in New Delhi. He married Anita Take in 1969 and moved to Denmark. The couple divorced five years later. His second wife was Joanna Meill. From 2013 he lived in a retirement home in Sussex, England. Originally wrongly diagnosed with dementia in 2013, he was accurately diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) two years later in 2015. He died on 8 January 2017 at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife and two adult children.
Enjoy your special day, Yvonne, and Margaret, and thank you for being my Facebook friend.
Love and peace
