The 'Tales from Portlaw' series of stories are all romantic stories which start and end in the Village of Portlaw in County Waterford, Ireland. The themes are varied.
Portlaw is the village of my birth and as all of the stories suggest, the good which comes out of Portlaw always returns there. Hence, the lead character of the story will invariably start in Portlaw, leave Portlaw and eventually return to Portlaw; thereby signifying the inner desire of most people born in Ireland always dreaming of someday returning there to end their days. Those readers of Roman Catholic belief please note that a few of the stories romanticise about the goings on between the nuns and the priests of the parish in a somewhat mischievous and naughty way. |
