However, there are always exceptions to the rule, and often somebody will go way beyond the call of duty to help out another person, that they deserve recognition and a mention. The Samaritan was a 62-year-old man from Myshall in County Wicklow, Ireland who is called Mick Kavanagh. The lady he helped out was Philomena Milbourne from Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Ireland.
A couple of years ago, Philomena was in two Irish hospitals in Wexford and Waterford for a total of nine weeks, during which time she was seriously ill with a rare condition that totally debilitated her and resulted in weight, hair, and skin loss of great magnitude. Upon her discharge from hospital, she was virtually unable to fend for herself and her friend, Mick, dropped everything and travelled down from his Wicklow home and cared for Philomena until she was able to care for herself once more.
Philomena was overwhelmed by Mick's magnanimity that she wanted him to know how grateful she was. She wanted to say 'thank you' and hence she made the request that I sing Mick an old Irish song. One thing my mother impressed upon me was the importance of saying 'thank you', and it was this fond memory that stirred me into a positive response to Philomena's request today.
Here is a very old Irish song, Mick from your dear friend, Philomena as a 'thank you' for being you. It dates back to 1880. Enjoy the rest of your day.
