"Many years ago as a youngster, it was customary to make up a Guy Fawkes for Bonfire Night and to cart it around the local streets with an outstretched hand to lighten the pocket of every passer by and to show off our creativity to neighbours. It wasn't particularly that we were in the process of honing our fashion skills so that we could one day become leading designers and show what best to wear, but rather that we could gather enough pennies with which to buy fireworks that our parents couldn't afford.
Naturally, when I wrote my children's book, 'Action Annie' for the 5-9 year old reader which deals with a seasonal story for each month of the year, Bonfire Night and the making of a Guy Fawkes figured large in the November tale.
The story of 'Annie's Bonfire' is ideal for today's child reader. It deals with the dilemma that Annie experiences when she makes a Guy Fawkes for Bonfire Night, but becomes so attached to it that she just knows that it is wrong to burn him on the top of her bonfire. This story can be obtained as an e-book from www.smashwords.com for the nominal price of $1.60 or can also be found in the 'Action Annie Omnibus' hard copy which deals with all twelve stories for the cost of £5.99 from www.lulu.com and amazon.com. The stories were praised by the late Dame Catherine Cookson. Enjoy." William Forde: November 5th, 2014.
