"We are always getting told that a pet is not just for Christmas, but sadly that isn't always the case with some folk.
They often first view it as a pup and on an impulse buy take it back home for the family to enjoy. Then they find that the responsibility of walking it regularly, training it and cleaning up after it wasn't as glamorous and exciting as they thought it would be. Indeed they find the task too onerous and decide to abandon the poor critter and cut their loss.
Don't they realise the consequences of their lack of thought and respect for a helpless creature, especially if they are dumped in the wilderness as the owner drives off back to their home to start another project? They'd have been kinder had they shot the creature there and then, rather than to have it fret in the cold, wet wind of the moorlands as it started to wither through hunger or get mistaken as a prowling fox in the dark of night by some unknowing farmer who is only protecting his hens and daily livelihood.
I was today reading about a prime-time tv show which is hosted by Aamir Liaquat Hussain in Pakistan. In an alleged attempt to win the Ramadan ratings war in Pakistan, the TV show host has given away at least two abandoned children on the air to childless couples during Islam’s holy month. His show seems like an unusual version of the 70′s game show in America, 'Let's make a deal' where cars are given away behind doors 1, 2 and three. In a recent episode Mr. Hussain told the studio audience, “This is the beautiful girl who was thrown on pile of garbage by somebody. See how beautiful and innocent she is.”
Progressive cruelty invariably starts with inflicting hurt first on innocent creatures through a basic lack of respect for their consideration and overall wellbeing and then progresses to innocent humans. I am willing to bet my last pound coin that the adult who can abandon a dog on the moor to die will at some future date in the life of their partner and children abandon their needs also. And even if they refrain from actually throwing their child on a pile of garbage, you can bet your sweet life they will most certainly teach them rubbish and in particular how to threaten people who they don't like, bully their opponents and how to trash the dreams of others. What a waste!" William Forde: July 2nd, 2014
