Thought for today:
"We often spend the first day of the New Year drawing up lists of things to do; making resolutions for the year ahead, many of which we invariably fail to keep. I pray that this coming year we start by listing our potentials instead of the flaws, as from our perceived weaknesses can come our greatest strengths.
One of my favourite poets, Alfred Lord Tennyson tells us that hope springs from the threshold of the New Year to come, whispering to us that it will be a happier time. I am sure that Tennyson echoed the wishes of most of us.
My own thought today is to invite mistakes into your life on a scale you have not previously experienced or have dared to imagine. I hope that you learn to shout about all the things that are good in your life and which you are good at instead of placing them into the ears of others as incidental whispers cloaked in modesty.
I hope that during 2015 you are making new mistakes, for if you are you will be making new friends, trying out new things, learning, living, loving, and pushing your goals. I hope that you are adopting a belief system that values wholesomeness, self and others. I hope that 2015 witnesses you doing things you have not done before, daring others to join you in your travels and share in your experiences, being able to stand on the side of rightousness and appropriately refuse requests without the need to explain.
My heartfelt wish is that you adopt a lifestyle that you find comfortable and less stressful and that you never stop trying to change the world even though you know that all purposeful change does not come easily between nations with different cultures and indivuals with different natures.
It is my hope that you speak out your desires and shout out your needs when not supplied, return shoddy purchases, don't settle for second best when you deserve more and practise doing all manner of harmless and fun things like jumping in puddles for no other reason than the sheer hell of doing them!
I hope that you continue to make many more mistakes; new mistakes, big mistakes and glorious mistakes; for all mistakes are sown in the seed of unforgetfulness and grow into crops of new learning. Whatever it is that scares you to do, dare to do it and make it familiar in habit.
May God give you the strength to continue making mistakes and learning anew for as long as you live; for this year, next year and all the years thereafter. Finally, I leave you with Eddy Arnold's Christmas song which reminds us all what Christmas is all about as this is one aspect of our year about which there should be no mistake.
