"As we spend on Christmas presents this year, let us please consider the poor of the world and in particular, how much we can do for them with so little of what we have to spend. A mere fiver can feed a family for a month in any of the poorer regions of the world. Don't only give as 'the good person' you are, but also as an example to your children.Being a 'good parent' involves encouraging one's children to also give a few pennies from their Christmas stocking. Believe me, this Christmas will be more special to all those people who give without any expectation of material return.
Between 1990 and 2003, I visited and held story-telling assemblies in over 2,000 Yorkshire primary schools. I always ended my sessions by thanking the teachers of our young children for instilling in their pupils the practice of 'giving' to those of less favourable circumstances than themselves as I considered such teaching to be the finest lesson any teacher can give a child. For it is only through the act of 'giving' of oneself to another that one can truly become the good person one was created to be." William Forde: December 4th, 2013.
