Today’s song is ‘Let’s Dance’. This song was recorded by David Bowie from his album of the same name, ‘Let’s Dance’ (1983). The song was written by Bowie and produced by Nile Rodgers. It was released as the album's first single in 1983 and went on to become one of his biggest-selling tracks.
The single was one of Bowie's fastest-selling, entering the ‘UK Singles Chart’ at Number 5 on its first week of release, staying at the top of the charts for three weeks. Soon afterwards, the single topped the ‘Billboard Hot 100, becoming Bowie's second and last single to reach Number 1 in the U.S. In Oceania, it narrowly missed topping the Australian charts, peaking at Number 2 for three weeks but it topped the chart for 4 consecutive weeks in New Zealand. The single became one of the best-selling of the year across North America, Central Europe and Oceania. It is one of the 300 best-selling UK singles of all time.

I had separated from my wife one year earlier when this record was released and had recently established a relationship with Fiona that was to produce William and Rebecca. We had two lovely children to our relationship and for twenty of the twenty-nine years, we remained deeply and passionately in love. During this period, although money was tight, we were very happy as a family unit.
After our children went to university and left home, our relationship naturally came to an end and Fiona wanted to go her own way and continue working abroad in Ireland. I am so pleased that we were able to remain friends and we liaise whenever necessary to keep each other informed about the welfare of our two grown children and how best to help them if/whenever needed.
David Bowie’s song reminds me very much of this period in my life. I dedicate this song to perhaps the most fervent David Bowie fan I know, Deborah Ives. I am not sure what was going on in her life when Bowie was first introduced to it, but whatever it was, David Bowie remains an inextricable part of it. Thank you for being my Facebook friend, Deborah, and I hope you like the Bowie song I dedicated to you. Enjoy your day, Deborah and give your granddaughter, Isobel my love.
Love and peace Bill xxx
