I inform you of these facts on the first day of January, 2020 in order to underscore my New Year Message and not to highlight any response of mine. As a person who has had to live with three different cancers for a number of years now, I simply want to stress to all people with different cancers, the power of one's mind over one's body, the enduring strength to be derived from positive thinking, and the common-sense response of getting back up whenever knocked down, in order to 'remain standing and staying alive'. While cancer can and is often deadly, it should never stop one living out and enjoying every day of one's remaining life on earth. Cancer can be positively managed and should not determine who you are, what is possible for you to still do and how to feel. Believe me when I tell you that I was first diagnosed with terminal blood cancer after three months of marrying my beautiful wife, Sheila on 10/11/12 and can honestly testify that my past seven years have been the happiest years of my life.
I dedicate my song today to all those people who are combatting cancer and other debilitating conditions of the mind and body. My New Year’s message is simply this. Do not let cancer define you or determine your response to your daily lives and interaction with family, friends, and neighbours. You are much more than the condition that inhabits your mind or body. You can mentally acknowledge its factual presence by all means in your body without inviting cancer to take up residence in your mind also.
Tell yourself daily three important things that can only enhance your life by making this New Year’s Resolution:
(1) Today is a good day to be alive.
(2) I’m still standing.
(3) I am alive today and will ‘stay alive’ one more day.
Love and peace to you all and a Happy New Year from Sheila and Bill xxx
